
Laura Carvalho is a Brazilian production designer with a degree in Audiovisual Studies and a master’s in Film Theory and Aesthetics from the University of São Paulo. Since 2008, she has worked in the art department on both national and international productions.
Her credits as production designer include the feature films Circo dos Sonhos (Brazil, in post-production), The Day is Long and Dark (Mexico-Colombia), Maria do Ingá (Brazil), Wilding Country (Brazil), Hug (Brazil), The Swamp Dead Man (Hong Kong-Brazil, in post-production); the French TV series Death Corner and Demain si J’y Suis; the German short film Atlantis Grand; and the Italian-Brazilian animated feature Pety’s Adventures, among others in Brazil. She was also the set designer for Netflix’s Time Hustler.
An alumni of the Berlinale Talents 2021 Production Design Studio, Laura is a member of the international Production Designers Collective and Bra.da Collective of Women Production Designers from Brazil. She has completed artist residencies in Japan and Brazil, developing projects that explore contemporary vernacular architecture and color. Her research on cinema, color, production design, and visual arts has been presented in Japan, Spain, and England.
Laura has taught Production Design in Guatemala (Universidad Francisco Marroquín), in Peru (invited by DAFO, Ministry of Culture of Peru), and currently lectures in the Postgraduate Course in Audiovisual Production Design at SENAC.
